Vandelles Reviewed in SEN (Baltimore)

By. Barrett King
Picture shoegaze with bleached-blonde highlights, cowboy boots and a duffel bag full of peyote hitchhiking somewhere on the western highways and you've got a pretty good image of The Vandelles. I'm pretty sure there's a surfboard to be found somewhere in this sea of sound on the Vandelles' EP, but I'm so bugged out by the gonzo go-go '60s surf guitar and the drum blasts on "Swell To Heaven" and " Lovely Weather" that it's just a bit hard to make out through all the distortion.

At times the vocals on this EP are too covered in reverb for my taste, but the fuzzy riffs that come from the pages of some pulp comic and the drugged-out art drone of the bonus cut following "Dead Wave" ends The Vandelles' EP on a particularly high note, riding the crest of a wave that won't come down before they come back with a full-length release

Ceremony Disappear Review

We got a review sent in about Disappear, it's a little long so we'll drop in the first paragraph and let you link over to the site.

From SUPERSTARCASTIC:

Perfection is rare. I would go so far as to say that perfection, in the very truest sense of the word, is impossible. Not just impossible, but also completely subjective on like 17.5 different levels. And it’s not even regular I-can’t-wrap-my-mind-around-it impossible. It’s also mathematically and scientifically impossible. However, because I’ve never really trusted math, science, or other people’s opinions, I’m not bound by their stupid laws of nature, or whatever. I can say, with conviction, that Ceremony’s Disappear is as close to perfect as I would ever dare call a record.

Seriously. It’s kind of a big deal.

The Vandelles 3hive Review

The Vandelles got a write-up on 3hive. Check itz out.

Four out of five doctors recommend The Vandelles as an effective tinnitus tonic. There just isn't anything better to beat a nagging case of tinnitus than the thick dose of white noise that is "Lovely Weather." I've submersed my head in The Vandelles' ocean of fuzz and wave upon droning wave of shimmering surf guitar has washed over me with soothing results. If that's too noisy for your tastes, pod up the
swell "Swell to Heaven" and get a load of what it sounds like when you cross-pollinate the Beach Boys with the Jesus & Mary Chain. Sweet summertime melodies swim lazily underneath the thick surface of guitars. I'll withhold final judgement until I hear more, but The Vandelles are on the verge of christening a new genre: Wave of Sound.

Ulrich Schnauss - Medusa / Straylight

It's been a pleasure to make the official video for Ulrich's single Medusa with a few friends of mine: John Wood, Dan Ribaudo and Emily Brecht. I've co-opted Alcian Blue's old studio name and am intending to make Straylight something concrete that provides audio/video services to those that may need it. This is a Safranin venture to the extent that we share all creative ventures as friends and I hope to cater first and foremost to my friends here. Sam

Vandelles Last Pop Song Review

The Vandelles EP just got reviewed in The Last Pop Song Blog. Again, excuse the translation from German to English. We can post both as well as a link to the actual review.

Kursierten die Vandelles schon letztes Jahr mit dem ein oder anderen
Track durch die Bloggerwelt, sind sie nun endlich gesignt und haben
ihre erste EP bei Safranin Sound veröffentlicht. Auf dem hier an dieser
Stelle schon öfter genannten Label (Screen Vinyl Image, Ceremony, The
Antiques) sind sie auch wirklich gut aufgehoben, passt doch der
wirkliche coole Noir Rock Sound zwischen The Jesus and Mary Chain,
Ravonettes und MBV sehr gut in das Labelprogramm. Surf Rock loud as hell

If the Vandelles circulated already last year with other tracks by
the Blogs, they are signed with Safranin sound who published
their first EP now finally. On here (the last pop song), the label frequently mentions
(Screen Vinyl Image, Ceremony, The Antiques) they (The Vandelles) are waived also
really good, fit nevertheless the real cool Noir Rock sound between
The Jesus and Mary chain, Ravonettes and MBV very well into the label
program. Surf Rock loud as hell…
